Are you surrounded by negativity? Have you really taken a moment to think about this? Often times we are facing negativity and don’t even realize it. Think about that time you asked a friend how things were going. Rather than say something positive your friend focuses on all of the negative aspects of his/her life and goes on and on about how awful things are. Or, what about the time you were waiting in line someplace only to hear the person behind you complain and mumble about how long the wait was taking? In today’s society we are all faced with negativity. One thing is for sure, negativity affects us all in a NEGATIVE way.
Now I know that last sentence might not have made a whole lot of sense, but I’m going to explain. If I’m constantly surrounding myself with negative people I’m going to start to feel negative. Am I right? Are you starting to understand what I’m talking about?
It’s not always completely obvious either, the negativity that is, but can still cause you stress and unwanted negative feelings. The actions of others can bring us down in more ways than we realize. Seeing someone frown at you, cut you off in traffic, roll their eyes, or speak in a not-so-nice tone can really get you started off in the wrong direction and can cause you to have a horrible/negative day.
Staying positive in negative times can be hard, but it can be done.
One step is to smile. Sometimes someone is holding a frown on their face and they don’t even realize it until someone smiles at them. A smile can turn someone’s day around.
Another thing you can do is talk to them with a positive tone. Let people know that they aren’t going to get you down without even telling them. Keep your tone happy and positive and you might just change theirs.
There are always going to be negative people and it’s impossible to live a life not affected by other people, however we can determine how we deal with the way we let others into our lives. Rather than fall into the negativity of others, try to be the positive light that shines so bright others can not help but turn their negative frown upside down.
Have a blessed day!
