Wikipedia says that Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective.
It goes on to say that Self-Confidence is having confidence is oneself, but Arrogance is having unmerited confidence–believing something or someone is capable or correct when they are not.
Now it says that Overconfidence or presumptuousness is excessive belief in someone (or something) succeeding, without any regard for failure.
It also goes on to say that Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability.
Now I want to tell you why I’m bringing this up. I have battled with low self confidence. I have had times in my life when I didn’t believe that I could do something or get through to someone. Now I look back on the things that I was doing at the time and I realize that had I had more confidence in myself I would have been more convincing to others as well and it would have helped my cause. Being confident in something you love, whether it be a job, sport, talent or anything in life is what will help you succeed.
I got to thinking about my life as a Christian. Now, let’s go back to what Wikipedia describes as Confidence. Am I confident that I’m a christian and that I have faith? Of course I am. But, let’s think about what it says about overconfidence or presumptuousness. This is excessive belief in someone succeeding, without any regard for failure.
Now, you don’t have to answer me, but are you presumptuous when it comes to your faith?
Remember what I said earlier about confidence? It can be self-fulfilling prophecy. Those without it mail fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it. We need confidence in ourselves, our jobs, our lives and our God.
I talked about Negativity the other day. Wikipedia also states that when one does not dwell on negative consequences one can be more self-confident because one is worrying far less about failure or the disapproval of others following potential failure.
I want to challenge you to find that confidence, shoo away the negative thoughts and bring yourself to the point that others want to know how they can be more like you. You can be overconfident in something you believe in without being arrogant because what you believe in is right in front of you—at arms reach. You have faith, confidence and the negativity is gone.
Have a Blessed Day!
