Life can sometimes be like a balancing act.
As a child life seemed to go so slow, and we couldn’t wait for time to fly so that we could be big and do more. And then that time comes and when you become an adult you wish you had the days back as a child when life moved at a much slower pace. In today’s world it feels like everyone is running on coffee and energy drinks. Why is that?
Why do we insist on fitting so much into one day? And we wonder why people have stress and are dealing with anxiety and other problems. Maybe what our generation really needs is to just slow down. Maybe we need to take the time to really look around and enjoy the things that were given to us.
Do you ever find yourself wishing you had more hours to spend with your children? Do you wish you had more time to read and just sit back and relax? What I’m about to do is challenge you to make that time. Your life does NOT have to run in the fast lane. Scott over, set your cruise and enjoy life (and your family) a little more.
Below are a few tips to help you do this…
1.) Limit the amount of things you take on. If you currently feel like you are stressed and overloaded, set a limit as to how much work/tasks you take on. While it may be hard to say no, sometimes it is a must.
2.) Make yourself a schedule. Plan what you will accomplish each day, week, month. When we have things written out for us we are much more likely to get them done in a timely manner, which can help reduce stress.
3.) Set a time and turn things off. While your work may be a big part of your life, it can also cause stress. There needs to be a time when you shut down. Pick a time and then just turn everything off—computer, phone…whatever it is you use to “connect” yourself to work. Your family will thank you!
4.) Find something that you really enjoy and do it! Whether it be reading a book, sitting out on the deck, going for a walk in the park, or simply watching a movie, take the time to do something that you really enjoy. Often times we have a list of things we would love to do, simple things, yet we put them on hold, hoping for that rainy day and they never seem to happen. Take a break and make them happen. Write it into your schedule!
5.) Take a vacation. This isn’t always affordable for everyone, however even just a weekend away (someplace close) with no distractions can do a world of good. Go for it, plan your little getaway today!
We hope that these tips are helpful and that you will take the time to enjoy life and slow down a bit.
