My Verizon Unlimited Data Upgrade
I’m a blogger and bloggers take lots of photos, it’s what we do. I purchased a used iPhone 4 when my HTC Thunderbolt started to give me problems. (I was sad because I loved the features the Thunderbolt had and didn’t really want to go from a 3G to a 4G phone…sigh). I was racking my brain for ways that I could purchase an iPhone 5 (without paying someone $700–yikes!)
Here is what I ended up doing…
Call Verizon Wireless (do NOT go to your local store, they do not like to do this for some reason).
Ask them to do an Upgrade on one of your non-smart phones (dumb phone as we like to call it–We have one that we use as our “family or home” phone that was due for an upgrade). Tell them that you want to do an Alternate Upgrade because you want the new iPhone 5 on your line, but you don’t want to lose your Verizon unlimited data.
They will upgrade your non-smart phone to the iPhone 5 (or whichever phone you prefer). When you receive your new phone in the mail you will call Verizon to activate and tell them that you are doing an Alternate Upgrade because you do not want to lose your Verizon Unlimited data. They will then activate the phone on YOUR line (not the dummy line).
You do NOT want to activate the phone on the dummy line, so be sure you call to activate it on your line.
While you still have them on the phone you can have them switch the dummy line back to a basic plan with no data, unless of course you would like to keep your data on your dummy line. You can also be sure that your non-smart phone stays on this plan.
I did exactly this when I upgraded on my line as well. I got the unlimited data plan right before they phased it out and I’m not letting go!!
I’m definitely not letting it go either!
Nice plan. don’t have verizon here but this deal sounds nice
That sounds like a great way to get what you need.
