Distractions_ Don't Let Them Get In Your Way

Distraction: A thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.

Every hour, every second, every single moment of the day there will be distractions. The question is, will you let these distractions get in your way?

How do you focus and not let the distractions creep in and take over when they are constantly surrounding us? We have social media, cell phones and electronics, television, video games, radio, and the list goes on. All of these things can be distractions.

Think about this: When you sit down to do something, how many times does your attention drift to something else? Not sure? Give it a try…sit down to do something and pay extra attention each time you begin to drift away from the task at hand. Surprised?

Steps to Minimize Distractions:

1.) Keep the distractions at a distance. If you are trying to work and your phone or social media (television or anything else) is becoming a distraction, move away from them. Keep them further away from you. This will make it harder to have them become a distraction. You are likely to complete the task at hand much faster.

2.) Set a schedule and stick to it. When you set a schedule you are much more likely to stay on task and get things done in a timely manner.

3.) Silence. Silence anything that may become a distraction. Place yourself in a quiet space so that you can work on the task at hand.

4.) Set goals. Set your goals and keep those in mind. You want to focus on your goals and constantly remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Being reminded of our goals makes us more likely to reach them.

5.) Don’t focus on too much at once. If you set too many task you will feel overwhelmed and are likely to become distracted simply because you are overwhelmed.

Remember that distractions can get in the way, and they don’t have to. Sometimes we just need to be reminded that when we set goals and we stay focused, they are more likely to be reached.

    These are all great tips and as you mentioned the most important one for me is to schedule time for tasks and stick to the schedule.
