How You View Yourself vs. How Others See You

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

It is a known fact that people often view themselves differently than others do. When you look in the mirror, you not only see what is right in front of you, but you see yourself with emotion and struggles. You know what you’ve been through. If you’ve struggled with your weight, acne, hair loss, or some other issue, you see that, and you dwell on it. It is often much easier for others to overlook the things that we see as set backs or obstacles in our own lives.

You may see your braces as making you ugly, while someone else sees them as a beautiful sign that you are taking a step in making your teeth straighter and that you are strong for going through the process.

You may see your stretch marks as ugly and unappealing. Someone else may see your stretch marks as a sign that you have been through things. You have struggles, but you have overcome them.

While you may see your weight as being too heavy or too thin, someone else may look at you as being the perfect size and wish that they could look more like you.

Often times we are harder on ourselves than anyone else.

We are the ones bullying ourselves…bullying ourselves into thinking that we aren’t good enough, or that we aren’t perfect.

But, let’s face it…NO ONE is perfect. NO ONE knows your struggles and your triumphs better than yourself, yet others will often see you as stronger than you see yourself, more beautiful than you see yourself, and more perfect than you see yourself.

Life would be so boring if we were all created equally. Isn’t it great that we are all unique individuals? We all struggle differently and we all shine differently.

The next time you look in the mirror, look your inner self as well as your outer self. Look at all that you have been through in life…the struggles, the happiness, the triumphs, the trials and tribulations…look at every aspect of your life. Try not to compare yourself to the person down the street or whoever’s shoes you wish you could be walking in, because you just never know how big their struggles have been in life.

WE ARE ALL beautiful in our own different ways. We are all unique, and that is what is great about our identity.

Sure, you can change your appearance if you like…remove a scar, cover a tattoo you got when you were younger, fix a broken or crooked tooth, have a surgery, but you will always still be a unique individual, even if you use the best plastic surgeon Tampa.

So, I ask you today…What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you need to work on the way you see yourself, so that you have more self love?

I think we could all work on this just a bit.

Today, I challenge you to find at least one good thing that you love about yourself. You don’t have to tell us what it is, but tell yourself. Work on giving yourself compliments so that you can truly appreciate how special you are.

  1. The unrealistic perfection the society is drawn to makes it hard for all of us. I think that it’s about the observation effect. Just let it go, and be yourself.

Society sets unrealistic standards. Every flaw is magnified in the mirror…others do not see you that way

I think we do tend to focus on our flaws. I rarely notice flaws in other people and so I think that we judge ourselves so much more harshly than others do.
